Green

At RedWater Designs we don't throw the term "green" around lightly.
Some see it as a marketing strategy while we take it to be our personal responsibility. We are tree huggers and proud of it! Setting up an art studio from the ground up has given us a unique opportunity to make choices that affect our health, and the health of the environment. Everything from our choice of ink, to the suppliers we work with have been chosen with great care to
reflect this policy.

One of our biggest concerns is ink. To that end, we only use highly pigmented, water-based ink. The advantage is a no-brainer, it eliminates the need for harsh chemicals during clean up. This is accomplished with soy-based cleaners, which, after years in the arts, is a welcome respite from previous standards. The ink itself is free of most environmentally damaging chemicals such as PVC, phthalate, heavy metals, azo compounds, nonyphenol and formaldehyde. If that doesn't make you think about what you're wearing right now we don't know what will.

We have also chosen to go with organic cotton apparel almost exclusively. Organic cotton is cotton that has grown in soil that is certified free of chemical fertilizers and pesticides for at least three years. The primary method of growing organic cotton is through crop rotation. Rotating the growing of different crops from season to season on a specific piece of land keeps the insects that feed off the cotton from settling in the soil. Crop rotation also keeps the soil from burning out, allowing natural nutrients to regenerate.

The initial cost of an Earth-friendly t-shirt may be more expensive, but the long-term advantages to the health of our environment and business are priceless.

Even our studio was thoughtfully planned to make use of natural light minimizing electricity. We joke about a lot of things, but our commitment to the environment is not one of them.

Thank you,
